About Connexions

There have been some major changes to the Connexions service in Surrey. These changes are designed to make sure that the most vulnerable young people in Surrey are given the best possible support.

We hope that these FAQs will explain what has happened to the service, and the reasons why.

Have you changed who Connexions is for?

Connexions services are still there to provide information and advice for young people in Surrey, but we are changing the way we do things.

I’m at school. How do I use the Connexions service?

Your school PC should have an online link to CareersEtc, which is a website that links to all the best sources of information and advice. There are also useful tools to help you decide what your next steps in finding your ideal job or education course might be, how to write a good CV, and much more. Ask your form tutor if you have trouble getting to this information online.

I’m not at school. Can I still use the Connexions service?

You can still visit http://www.connexionssurrey.co.uk/ from any PC (including those in school or college), where you can find masses of info, local apprenticeship vacancies and a link to the national database of current job vacancies, where hundreds of jobs can be searched by location and type of work.

If you’re looking for your next step in education or training, visit http://www.surrey-area-prospectus.co.uk/ where you will find details of just about every course available in Surrey.

What if I can’t get online, or would prefer to talk to someone?

Connexions Direct Advisers are currently available for 18 hours a day until 2 a.m. every morning, 7 days a week on 080 800 13 2 19 (free-phone from most landlines – ask for a call-back if you have to pay for the call).

Are there any other ways to contact Connexions Direct?

You can send a text on 07766 413 219. There is also a webchat link on the Connexions website.

Can I get additional help?

Yes, if you are a young person who will find it difficult moving on to further education or finding a job after Year 11. Connexions Personal Advisers will now be working in schools to help young people who we think are likely to find this difficult, including youngsters with special needs (‘statements’). Other young people should visit the website or call the free-phone number.

Connexions PAs will also be working with some young people aged 16 to 18 who are not in education, employment or training, helping them find a suitable job or college place as quickly as possible.

Why have you made these changes?

We have less money to spend on services than before. We must make sure that we do everything we can for the young people who need our services most.

By providing our free-phone, text, and web-chat services, we also want to make sure that there are still plenty of other ways for everyone to connect with Connexions.

You can tell us what you think  of Connexions services here, or contact us about any other issues or queries.
