Choosing Courses for GCSE
It's important to check out each subject for:> Content. Which skills you'll learn and what topics you'll be taught.
> Interest and ability. Does this course match your interests and abilities?
> Assessment. How is the course examined or assessed; is your course work taken into account?
> Future Career Choices. How can this subject help your future career plans? Some jobs require certain subjects at GCSE and, for others, studying particular subjects can be helpful.
Your choices:
> Every subject you take will give you valuable skills and knowledge for the future.
> Some subjects, however, are so vital that everyone must study them. These are the core subjects.
> The subjects you choose to take are your optional subjects.
> Choose a good spread of subjects so that you don't limit your future career.
Core subjects:
English, Mathematics, Science, Design Technology, Information Technology, Modern foreign language, Religious Studies, Physical Education.
Optional subjects:
Humanities, e.g. history, geography., Creative and artistic subjects, e.g. drama, art., Vocational GCSEs.
You will receive information from your school about the options you can choose.
