What are Key Skills and Why are They Necessary?

> Key Skills are the skills people need to be successful in work and everyday life.
> Key Skills add great value to everyone.
> They involve some or all of the following:
> Working in teams - Playing your part, making a contribution, acting on feedback
> Problem solving - Recognising and solving problems and knowing what to do when you can’t
> Improving your own learning - Planning tasks, setting targets, making improvements
> Communication - Listening, discussing, explaining, understanding
> Working with numbers - Estimating, measuring, spotting and correcting mistakes
> Information Communication Technology (ICT) - Operating IT equipment, preparing, inputting and presenting information

Key Skills are broad transferable skills that gives a person flexibility.
A young person with good key skills is an asset, and is greatly prized by employers.
