Crisis Loans and Hardship Payments
Crisis Loans> If the young person is in particular need of money and cannot wait until their first payment of benefit is made, they may be able to qualify for an interim payment (which will be deducted from their benefit at a later date).
> Crisis Loans are paid by the Benefits Agency, but sometimes payments can be arranged via Job Centres/ Job Centre Plus.
Hardship Payments
> Sometimes Jobseeker's Allowance cannot be paid under the normal rules.
> This could happen if the young person contributed to their becoming, or remaining, unemployed.
> If the young person or their dependants are likely to face particular hardship as a result of the refusal of benefit, then they may qualify for a reduced-rate payment
instead.
