Students with Dependents
The Working Families' Tax Credit (WFTC) offers financial assistance for working families on low and middle incomes. It replaced Family Credit in October 1999.
Families - either couples (married or unmarried) or lone parents who:
> work at least 16 hours a week (for couples, at least one partner), and
> have one or more children living with them, and
> are resident in the UK and entitled to work here, and
> have savings of £8000 or under.
Parents need to complete an application form which is available from:
> the Inland Revenue Tax Credit Helpline (0845 609 5000)
> Benefits Agency Offices
> Inland Revenue Tax Enquiry Centres
Employers will then add the tax credit to the next pay of the employee
