Housing Benefit
> Young people who no longer live with their parent(s)/carer(s) may also qualify for some help with their accommodation costs, even if they have been refused other benefits.
> Forms to start off a claim for Housing Benefit are included in packs of benefits forms (e.g. JSA1, A1), but can also be obtained from housing offices of the local council.
> Written proof of the amount that the young person pays for ccommodation will be required (i.e. a tenancy agreement or a letter from their landlord).
Please note the following:
> There is a limit payable for most single people under the age of 25 who
live in private accommodation (this is based on what the council feels is a fair rent for a single room within the area).
> Young people should seek advice from their local housing office, especially if considering taking up accommodation with a private landlord.
