In trouble with the Law
Law> The law allows you a number of rights and responsibilities and serves as a way of governing the community we all live in.
> You need to understand what your rights are so that you will know when you are breaking the law and how the law can protect you if you need it to.
Police
> The police provide a wide-ranging response to ensuring that crime and disorder are dealt with effectively within the communities that we live.
> They are there to ensure the safety of the public and to stop crime. They must act within the law of the land and their own code of practice, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE).
> If you are stopped by the police you are entitled to know the Police Officer's name, the police station where they work and why they have stopped you.
> If you are arrested then you must give your name and address and should seek legal advice from a solicitor.
Solicitors
> If you have got into trouble with the law you should get yourself a solicitor.
> They will be able to represent your interests, give you advice and help you argue your case.
> Different firms of solicitors specialise in different areas of the law (family law, business law etc) so you should always explain exactly what your situation is and why you need a solicitor so you get someone who is best able to represent your needs.
