8. Children and Young People Now Magazine
Please feel free to access this website for all the latest information, news and articles about working with young people – please use the log in information which was sent out to you with the bulletin email from Jem – if you don’t have it please give me a call 01483 519350.
Dear All,
I attended the Generation Neet: how to solve the problem of young people not in education, employment and training organised by Children and Young people Now.
This report was discussed and the recommendations made were by young people were due to the lack work experience- volunteering would be a route to gain this.
Young people experiences of the Job Centre Plus were not good, they felt intimidated when going into the centre. Young People should be taught how to challenge discrimination.
Employment intervention should start when young people sign onto JSA rather than after a 6mths period.
I have attached the full report for you to look through.
Kind Regards
Samena
10. Teenage Pregnancy falls in Surrey
The most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) for 2008 showed that Under 18 Conception numbers and rates have continues to FALL IN SURREY.
Our Conception Numbers fell from 481 in 2007 to 468 in 2008
Our Conception Rate also fell from 23.4/1000 in 2007 to 22.5/1000 in 2008 (a decrease of 2.7% from 2007 rate, and the lowest rate for 10 years).
The percentage change in rate from baseline (1998) is now - 18.5% against - 15.2% in 2007.
This is a very positive indicator to continue the work we have been doing, and to now focus on the new initiatives beyond 2010. Congratulations and thank you all for your hard work.
