CAF half-day refresher course for users
This course has been designed for professionals who have received training eight to twelve months ago and for professionals who are already familiar with the ECM Agenda and the Assessment Framework (Locality staff, new Social Workers and Education Support staff).
It is vital at this time for the CAF implementation across the County, which is gathering pace that all professionals are up to date and secure in their understanding of the CAF 5-Step process.
Attendance will give an opportunity to professionals to update their knowledge on current CAF processes and new arrangements to query if a CAF Assessment has already been undertaken on a child.

8. Facebook – Your Help Please…
Connexions Surrey has set up a Facebook Profile, so far we have 100 members, but we would love to make it more like 400!! We would very much encourage PA’s to help get this off the ground.
Social networking is an excellent platform for engaging with and linking Young People, currently we have a quiz on our page, which will run for 2 weeks on issues surrounding parent's attitudes towards their teenagers having sex.
We have used opportunities for consultation, prizes, and days out and meeting new friends as incentives to get young people to join. Please promote this to your clients and encourage them to make friends with: Connexions Surrey by logging on to their www.facebook.com profile and searching for us. Any queries about this should be directed to:

10. New Staff
Dear PA’s
I would like to introduce Katy Lynch who has now taken over my role of Connexions PA for Substance Misuse. After nearly 9 years of being a PA and the pleasure of working with you all, I have changed my role and am now working for Catch 22 24/7 Service.
Katy has lots of experience and enthusiasm and I am sure you will find her a great support in making referrals and linking to 24/7 substance misuse service. So please contact Katy if you need support in making referrals.
All the best
Steve Bird
24/7 Senior Support Worker
Hi Everyone,
I am the new Connexions PA for Substance Misuse, based at Catch 22’s 24/7 service. I started on the 1st of June and I have already managed to meet with some of you! I have been a PA for over 4 years and have worked with a few different client groups, including the NEET group, SEN and most recently, care leavers.
The 24/7 service works specifically with young people aged 11-19 across the whole of Surrey. We have a multi disciplinary-team consisting of treatment workers who work directly with young people to prevent, reduce and stop substance use, an A & E link worker who links you people who are admitted to hospital with alcohol related issues to relevant services, a qualified social worker, a parent support worker and myself. We also run a 24 hours emergency help line for anyone out of hours who feel like they need some urgent support or advice they can telephone 08006226662.
If you would like to refer directly to 24/7 you can do some through our website: www.catch-22.org.uk/247 or on 01372 832 888.
I am really keen to get stuck in with the new post and start working with young people, so if you have any clients who you have concerns around drug and alcohol use then please speak to me directly on 01372 832 909. I can facilitate guidance interviews, work intensively around EET or work with young people around low level drug use – so feel free to contact me! I plan to attend some of your team meetings soon to introduce myself properly and meet you all!
Thanks
Katy Lynch
11. Swine Flu- Latest
It’s important that we remain vigilant as swine flu outbreaks continue across the country, including Surrey. You’ll be aware that media coverage of the virus has intensified in recent days, prompting NHS Surrey to repeat their precautionary advice to Surrey people. The Associate Director of Public Health, Helen Atkinson, clearly states that Surrey has a good stock of antivirals, but that most people will be able to recover from swine flu without them, just like seasonal flu. I have attached the latest media release and poster from NHS Surrey for your information.
The message about reducing the spread of swine flu still holds. If people think they have flu then they should stay at home and follow the same procedures as they would for normal seasonal flu. Many people with swine flu have not needed to seek treatment from their GP, but if they do find it necessary, the advice is to ring their doctor rather than go into the surgery. If they still have concerns they should ring NHS Direct, but unless advised otherwise should not go into a walk-in clinic or A&E department at a local hospital.
Please look at the updated details about Swine Flu on the county council’s website if you require further information. These include links to a range of health service information.
As we are continuing to see new outbreaks of swine flu locally, the county council is working with NHS Surrey to monitor the situation closely, particularly where local schools are affected.
As the end of the academic year approaches, no county schools are closed because of swine flu, although many have had cases. Understandably, some people are concerned about their health and that of their children as they become aware of outbreaks in communities around Surrey, but at the moment it is still very much 'business as usual'.
As one of Surrey's major employers, the county council has plans in place to keep services running should a large number of staff become affected by the virus.
12 Communication Screens In Connexions Centres
Remember that these screens are there for you to use to communicate with Centre users, either with continuing messages or specific short-term announcements about activities or events. Any Connexions content like this is free (although other agencies and organisations will have to pay) so if there are any messages you would like to get out to young people, talk to the Centre manager about using the screens.
